Look out world, here we come!

In my last blog I talked about how we used to plan road trips using an atlas. With the amount of information available at our fingertips, a better travel planning tool emerged – Google Maps.

You’re probably used to using a map app to get local directions or avoid traffic delays; but, my favorite map use is to plan vacation travel! See an amazing photo of a beach in Florida from your friend’s travels? Follow Wonderful Places in the World on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1355209068185656/), and see an amazing place you’d like to add to your bucket list? Drop a pin on your Google Maps for future reference. A collection of pins over time can direct you to a particular region you’re interested in visiting. When you get to the planning stage, even more pins can be added for restaurants, accommodations and sightseeing stops.

My travel planning pins on Google Maps

For us, the pins provide a roadmap for our travel – connecting the dots. The map below highlights one day of our trip in northern Italy. The pins were used to help us construct our drive from one destination to another, capturing as many of our highlighted pins as possible.

Planning a trip can take hours. Some advanced planning can help make that dream destination a reality when it’s time to book! So, start pinning!
